Handicap Tournament 2014

This year we are operating a sliding handicap system. Each player gets allocated an initial number of handicap points which they will start the first game with. After each game the handicaps are then adjusted to make it more difficult for the winner of that game to win the next game.

Definitions

  • Greatest handicap. The one which penalises the player/pair the most ie -30.
  • Least handicap. The one which penalises the player/pair the least ie +30

Rules

  1. After each game the handicap of the person who has the greatest handicap for that game is adjusted. It is increased by one point if they won the game eg goes from -15 to -30 or decreased by one point if they lost the game eg goes from -15 to 0. If the handicaps are, or become, the same for a game then the player who won gets their handicap increased by one point for the next game eg goes from +30 to +15.

  2. Handicaps can be adjusted to -40, -50, -60 etc as required.

  3. Matches are best of 3 Hartswood sets, ie first to 6 games. There are no tiebreaks at any point. ie 6-5 games is a winning score in all sets.

  4. At the end of a set keep adjusting the handicap in the same was as at the end of a game. Eg if the handicaps for the last game of a set were Player A -15 and Player B +15 and Player A wins the game, and hence the set, then at the start of the next set the handicaps will be Player A -30 and Player B +15

  5. If the total of the players/pairs handicap points for a game is even then the server starts serving from the Deuce side. If the total is odd then the server starts serving the game from the Advantage side.

  6. The table on the right shows the handicaps for the first game of a match. After each game the handicap is adjusted depending on who won the game following these guidelines.

  7. Match results should be submitted via this online form or by emailing the Tournament Organiser directly.

  8. Finals day is Saturday 21st June.

  9. If at any point you discover you won't be able to play on Finals day then please do not continue to play matches. Immediately inform the tournament director and give your next opponent(s) a walkover.
